Landscapes

Mainly mine sites.

I find myself drawn to the old abandoned mine sites of Ceredigion. Many of these sites are well over a hundred years old and it is interesting to me to remember that these places were once busier and more heavily populated than many of the county’s towns. However, I do not necessarily want to photograph decay as such (a subject that I have seen a number of photographers tackle in photographing old buildings) but rather I am find myself interested in how these places seem lost and out of time, empty and somehow ancient. In this sense I am not limited to just taking photographs of mines, the photograph of the stars seems to hold a similar quality and I am drawn to taking photographs of old castles or empty mountainsides for much the same reason.
